Robinhood was of course the legendary hero of 12th Century England who robbed from the rich to give to the needy & deserving. This champion of the downtrodden and the defenseless reflected many of the ideals of the English Yeoman.

Along with Little John (his chief archer), Friar Tuck, Maid Marion (his beloved), and his band, he lived in Sherwood Forest. He was a great sportsman, noted for his love of the free life and for his chivalry.

Robinhood Revived is an Incorporated Association which commenced it's formal existence in 1994 when Sam McCardel registered the name idea back into existence from decades prior.

The genesis for this idea came from stories told by Sam's father Ken McCardel (1916-1997) who advied him about a group of friends who formed a committee called "Robinhood" of which he was the treasurer. The group was formed in his lounge room and subsequent meetings were held at the little ivy covered Bostonian House at No.2 St. Leonard's Crt., South Yarra.

Prior to this and because of a breach birth (bad arm) Ken did not serve in war and could only be used in Administration in the Army. However, rather than sit behind a desk he would liked to actively assist in other ways and became involved in the organisation of monthly dances at the Chevron Hotel in St.Kilda Rd., during and after the war for returned soldiers. This was very successful.

Then in 1953, this group, known as Robinhood and who amongst its members included the legendary comedian Barry Humphries, the well known architect Neil Clerehan, Joy & Bill Alston, Anne Swallow and others, did over a period of 5-8 years, worked to assist the Helping Hand Society by running Art shows and dinner dances at Ciro's Nightclub.

This concept, philosophy and the name appealed to Sam, who over the last 10 years has turned on various event under the name "Robinhood Revived" and raised many thousands of dollars at cocktail parties, farm events, lunches and dinners for various organisations including the MCRI, Sepol, the Rushworth State Emergency Service, the CFA, the Waranga Memorial Hospital and others.

Today, the registered office has of Robinhood Revived has not moved far since 1953 and is ocated next door at No. 4 St. Leonards Crt., South Yarra.

Depending on the event, support and assistance has come from from a wide variety of sources including friends and families, all pulling together to achieve fund raising objectives over the years.

The mandate of Robinhood Revived is threefold -

  1. To Raise Money for Charitable Institutions and Worthy Causes
  2. To Promote Amongst it's members a spirit of responsibility and awarness for those less advantaged than themselves (Nobless Oblige)
  3. To keep alive the spirit of Robinhood's generosity.

The original idea then and today has always been to raise funds for different charities by "entertaining those comfortable enough whilst ightening their pockets along the way, to help those who are more needy than themsleves. The group RHR like to support a variety of causes and not just one.

Robinhood Revived, like it's namesake and the group that went before, is apolitical and independent.

It's aim is always to have fun whilst raising funds.
